Gordon Merrick - The Lord Won't Mind All Books by Gordon Merrick - Author of : The Lord Won't Mind
Paperback Reprint edition (November 1995)
Alyson Pubns; ISBN: 1555832903

"Gay Romance Novels; Prior to the publication of this beloved novel, nearly every gay novel and play seemed to end in suicide--or at least deep despair. Merrick was one of the first writers to insist that a gay relationship could in fact be a happy one. The Lord Won't Mind tells the story of Peter and Charlie, who begin a love affair at their Ivy League college in the '60s."

His next novels were 'The Vallency Tradition' and 'The Hot Season'. The Lord Won't Mind and it's two sequels, One for the Gods and Forth Into Light, were dazzlingly different from anything he'd written before and have secured him a place in literary history. In sexual, Peter, and the stormy, abiding love he finds with another man, Charlie. ~*~ Featured Book Review ~*~
"Gay Romance Novels; This book was absolutely brilliant. The story is set in the 1930's, revolving around the Cosling family who buy acres of land in pre-popular St Tropez, for little more than a few thousand US dollars. With surprise they suddenly become super rich when within five years the land is worth millions. The first 200 or so pages concentrate on Stuart and his common-in-law wife, Helene and young son Robbie, as they settle on their wealth of land to become farmers. This part of the story is told well and is enjoyable, but the book comes into its own when the young Robbie grows up to be 'the' most stunningly attractive young men on the planet. We follow his ups and downs as he learns to accept his homosexuality and joys and pains as he falls in love. This book is one of those that becomes like a companion as you get drawn into all of it's 450 pages. The sequel, The Great Urge Downwards is also a treasure."

His descent into depraved and dangerous thrills is fast, and no one denies him whatever he desires. Until he meets Robbie Cosling, a young man who has done it all before--and who loves Lance enough to risk everything for him."

Mark O’Donnell - Getting Over Homer at Amazon.co.uk All Books by Mark O’Donnell - Author of : Getting Over Homer
Paperback - 208 pages Reprint (June 1997)
Vintage Books USA; ISBN: 0679781226

"Gay Romance Novels; Mark O'Donnell, the funniest writer you've never read, is the proud father of Getting Over Homer. In 193 pages percolating with wordplay, the book charts a romantic odyssey through the gay demimonde of New York City. Your faithful narrator, Blue Monahan, is a songwriter and self-described "alien on Earth." (Actually, he's a Midwesterner in Manhattan, which is just as bad.) Monahan ekes out a living playing piano and writing doomed musicals, while his twin brother, an actor, suckles Hollywood through a long-running sitcom.
The Homer of the title is a catty charmer with a shady past, a professional party-thrower who woos, screws, then "adieus" Blue. We follow the jilted through the healing process; it's painfully honest, but well leavened with wit. Getting Over Homer, ends much as it began: certain about love, uncertain about lovers, and through it all bravely funny."
